Maybe it’s my age or maybe it’s my internet interest’s but for what ever reason I get many adds on social media about supplements that will “Change my life for the better!” Everything from from juice powders, vitamins, teas, ointments, you name it, there seems to be something that will make you happier, younger, more energetic, smarter, have better hair, better teeth and on and on. We all want to feel better so marketing these products I’m sure can be lucrative. The question is, do they work?
I have found something that does work! The one thing that changed my life the most, “Forgiveness!” Forgiveness set me free. It’s that plain and simple. When you do what Jesus taught and “let go” of past wrongs and hurts, you are well on your way to discovering a new Peace and Spiritual life that will lift all areas of your life. What hurts and wrongs are you carrying? Who are you allowing to continue to poke and prod you in your heart and mind? Go to Jesus right now and ask Him to help you let it go. Lift them in prayer and ask God to bless them and to help you let go of the hurt you have been carrying because of them. Let it Go and free yourself and begin living with a newfound Joy.
Love for Enemies
“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Get The Word Out! Praise Community Fellowship will be meeting Sunday Mornings at the Cottonwood Church at 10:00am Sunday Mornings. We will continue to broadcast the services live at that time on Facebook for those who do not feel comfortable meeting in person.
Today is Veterans Day. It is a day we remember and honor all those who served in fighting for the freedoms of this country and for the freedoms of others in other countries. Although it is not an official Christian Holiday, it is based on Christian principles of peace. See below.
November 11 is Veterans Day, originally “Armistice Day.” On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month (i.e., November 11, 1918, exactly 101 years ago this Monday), the truce was declared that ended World War I, then known as “The Great War” and “the war to end all wars.”
“Armistice” is from the Latin arma (“arms”) and sistere (“stand still”). Imagine the stillness, the quiet that came from laying down weapons on both sides, after years of grueling, bloody trench warfare.
The United States Congress subsequently declared that the date “should be commemorated with thanksgiving and prayer and exercises designed to perpetuate peace through good will and mutual understanding between nations.”
Sadly, it was not “the war to end all wars” – and so in 1954, the day was renamed, “Veterans Day” in order to honor veterans from all the wars since, not just World War I. But the words of Congress still resonate, as do the holiday’s origins in that great stillness.
A day of thanksgiving: for the service of veterans, living and dead; for the service of caregivers – doctors and nurses and chaplains and mental health professionals and spouses and family members and friends – who walk with veterans through the ravages of war, even after the bullets and bombs and missiles stop flying; and for the days of peace that come at long last.
We are grateful for those who sacrificed so much!
Prayers:
Mary and Lee Knapp, please lift Mary and Lee in healing prayer. I spoke with Mary this past week and she is having great difficulty with her vision. She has lost vision in one of her eyes and the other is very weak. Lee is still having foot problems which makes it easy fro him to trip and fall. We ask for Gods healing power and God’s peace.
Mike Rodgers is home recuperating from his last surgery. Please lift Mike to the healing power of God’s love so he can get back to coming to church wit Lori.
See you Sunday at 10:00am Cottonwood Church on Glen Carbon Road. Bring a friend! We are looking to build the body of Jesus to help change the world! Love, pastor kent
